Book Review #163 : The Demons Of Jaitreya by Shubira Prasad

Author: Shubira Prasad
Genre: Mythological Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

I generally am a very fast reader and don’t take more than a couple of days to finish a book. But this particular took my heart away, and immersed me so much that it took me quite a few days to come out of that  world that author has created with her impeccable sense of writing.

The book is an amalgam of two worlds, the present one where we live and the one which imbibes in us so many religious values. The evil powers that we witnessed by means of our scriptures come in a totally new avataar in the kalyug.

Lord Rama as per the writer has correctly predicted that in the times to come, he needs to take rebirth as ‘Kalki Avtaar’ as the world will be infested with many ‘Rakshas’ albeit in different form.

First of all kudos to the author for her wide range of imagination and an on point sense of parallelism in creating a unique world by combining two already known periods. With an on point narration and just the perfect use of characters, she has carved a tale that will be stay with me for quite a long time. Waiting for the further parts to unravel soon.

The diary entries make the story more enjoyable. Overall it was a good read.

Book Review #161: Everything I Never Told You by Ajay K Pandey

Author: Ajay K Pandey
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Love has no religion but even in today’s modern society inter-caste or inter-religion relationships are a taboo. Author Ajay K Pandey has very beautifully depicted this sensitive issue in his book.

This is a story of two childhood friends turned lovers Roshan and Soha who see from different religions. Their love had to meet several hurdles due to religious differences and their respect towards their respective families and eventually they get separated.

They meet again years after and wish to be together but this time they have to face and convince Roshan’s 17-year-old son Anuj. Yet again they have to face the hurdles of religious differences.

Will they ever come together?
Will they be able to convince Anuj?

The book focuses on serious issues like religion, faith in God, inter-religion marriages etc. I like the concept of finding out about different religion as their belief in God. The story moves at a slow pace and sometimes feels little exaggerated but the concept is really good.

Book Review #160: Disguise by Samuel Dharmendar

Author: Samuel Dharmendar
Genre: Thriller
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

The story starts with Tarsha, a 28-year-old being attacked by two hooligans. Luckily she is saved by Jude Ryan, a doctor who was on his way to his home. He took her to his home and treated her. She contacts her boyfriend cum police officer Armando and informs her about her attack.

On the other hand, the business tycoon Sanjay Tandon and his wife met with an accident and was declared spot dead and their funeral rituals were being shown on news channels and Tarsha feels hurt watching this. Armando is hell-bent on finding out the culprits and solve the mystery. And the facts that emerge from his investigations is very thrilling to read.

Who tried to attack Tarsha and why?
Why did Tarsha feel hurt watching the funeral of Tandon’s?
What is the relation between Tandon’s and Tarsha?
Will they ever solve the mystery?

The story is an amalgamation of thrill, mystery and romance. The story is very interesting to read and the twists and turns included in the story just make the readers hooked to it till the end. Although I felt there was a little exaggeration of description at some points, the story was very intriguing. And after reading the cliff hanger at the end I just can’t wait for the second book.

The book is a short read which you can finish it one sitting. The language is very simple and lucid and the narration was very pleasant. The cover pic and the title are very apt for the story. I liked the book and I recommend it to everyone.

Book Review #159: Lifeline by Chetan Maheshwari

Author: Chetan Maheshwari
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

“Lifeline” is a story which gives us an account of experiences and situations that we deal in our everyday life though fictional characters. The theme of the book includes love, friendship, office politics, struggles of startups and so on.

Akhil, a workaholic guy giving his best to his job and Teesha a marketing geek are both experiencing the worst of office politics which results in losing their jobs and are trying to boost their careers.

Rati, Akhil’s sister is a single mother who wants to develop her startup. The story focuses on how these three main characters come together and whether or not they succeed in their venture. It shows the difficulties of venturing into startups in India.

The story progresses very subtly and gradually. The language is simple and lucid. The narration is good but I felt the life experiences and situations in the story could have been portrayed better. Otherwise it was a good story. This is a very short book that you can finish it in one sitting.

Book Review #158: Crystal Shadows by RJ Parker

Author: RJ Parker
Genre: Fantasy
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Crystal shadows is a story filled with fun, surprise, thrill which will keep the readers interested throughout the story make them wanting for more.

The story is about Sarah Fields who lives with her father and shares a very friendly relation with him. They share the same birthday along her grandfather who’s existence is mere suspense in the story.

The characters of Sarah’s friends Jack, Shaw and Rachel are very interesting to read and feels like a typical teenage gang of friends you would have in college. I liked the character of Shaw very much. His character was the most funny and they all love each other so much so that they can go to any extent for one another.

During one of their endeavours in Sarah’s house, they find someone living in her attic. Although they get scared at first, later decides to find out about the suspense and what they find shocks them to the core. And to top it all they find out that they are been chosen to power up the Telum Deos which helps to eradicate all the darkness of the world.

The story is very enthralling and the author’s amazing talent of storytelling is worth applauding. The mention of Dracula and the mystery of Sarah’s grandfather and the fun-filled adventures of the friends, Shaw’s drama and humour is just what the readers need in every book. I totally loved this book.

Book Review #152 : Daughters of Char Chinar by Almas Hussain

Author: Almas Hussain
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

A splendid tale of redemption which gets hitched in your hearts forever. The way the author has depicted the story is very interesting and the readers can feel like they are part of the story and feel the emotions of the protagonists.

This is a story of two ill-fated identical twins, Meher and Nafisa, who are born in a place called Char Chinar where the beauty is the adversary for any women and where rape is considered a punishment, not a crime.

Nafisa and Meher have struggled throughout their adolescence from the wrath of their father Kazi who hates them for reason unknown to them. They are shifted to their maternal grandmother Nanna’s house where they are welcomed wholeheartedly. But that doesn’t solve their problems. Nanna plans of a terrific idea to avoid unnecessary attention of men towards her granddaughters.

Their life was finally turning out to be better until one day when their father kidnaps Nafisa and sacrifices her in the Jirga court as a punishment for his crime. The jirga courts are where an accused offers as a compensation to his crime a virgin female of his family, who is raped for revenge.

The author has taken very sensitive issues like the assault on women, women empowerment, primitive judicial systems like jirga courts and has woven the sorry very beautifully. It’s interesting to read how these twin sisters break all the shackles of society and redeem themselves. Will Nafisa be able to save herself from the jirga court rules? You will have to read the story to find out this.

Book Review #151: Saahi & Sudheer by Yogita Warde

Author: Yogita Warde
Genre: Romance, Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is a beautiful tale of love, friendship and heartbreak. This is story of two dioganally opposite characters Saahi and Sudheer and their journey together. Sudheer is an introvert person who hasn’t felt the need of a friend until he saw Saahi who is a cheerful and extrovert girl.

Saahi’s arrival into Sudheer’s life changed him completely into a better person. Their journey started with friendship later to be realised to be much more than that. They share special bonding with each other and compliment each other very well.

They we’re living their moment happily but an unexpected turn of events changed their life and they lost connection with each other. While Sudheer turned out to be an artist, Saahi become a writer. Will they ever meet again? Well you need to read the book to find out.

The author’s story weaving ability is just brilliant and to imagine that this book was initially written in Hindi and then translated to English in just amazing. The story is very emotionally touching and it is narrated so beautifully that the readers can feel like a part of the story. I really liked the book very much. And it’s a short book which you can finish it within an hour.

Book Review #147: Raja of Nowhere by Deepak Rosha

Author: Deepak Rosha
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Story starts in Lahore where a baby named Sudhir is kidnapped and the police are unable to trace the kidnapper and find the baby. Then the story shifts 70 years later to New Delhi.

Jagnnath Kumar, an eminent politician who is famously called the Raja of Nowhere selects Shamim Noor, an investigative journalist to write his autobiography whom he trusted could keep it confidential. The story then focuses on Jagannath narrating his past records to Shamim. And one day he receives a letter which apparently related to his birth, shocks him to the core and is unaware of what decision he must take further. In midst of all this Jagannath passes away but Shamim suspicious about his death tries to find out the reason behind his death.

What did the letter enclose?
How did it affect him?
Was Jagannath’s death natural or is it murder?
Will Shamim resolve the mystery behind all this?

The relation between the kidnapped baby and Jagannath and the reason behind the baby’s kidnap is really interesting to read. I liked the way the two stories are intertwined. The story very smoothly transforms between the past and the present without causing any confusion to the readers. The narration of the story is decent and the language is very simple and lucid.

Book Review #145: Enchanted Frangipanis Nisha Harbola

Author: Nisha Harbola
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This story is an emotional rollercoaster which focuses on the ups and downs of the married life of Adita and Meher.

Meher wakes up one day to find Aditya missing. At first she thinks he has gone to work and proceeds with her routine work. But when he did not return she gets suspicious and calls all her relatives, friends to find out about him but nobody had any clue as to where he is.

The story focuses on Meher recalling the events of the day Aditya went missing and trying to find out the mystery behind his sudden disappearance. All through this she remained indifferent without showcasing her emotions which causes everyone to doubt her intentions including her parents.

Where is Aditya?
Is Meher really trying to find out where he is or does she have a role in his disappearance as everyone thinks?
Will Aditya ever come back?

The story is very interesting and kept me hooked till the end. It story shifts between past and present many times but it doesn’t cause any confusion and the climax was unexpected. The character of Meher is very complicated but somehow I liked this character very much. The writing style of the author is very good and the language used is simple and lucid.
