Book Review #196: The Story That Never Started by Piyush Gupta

Author: Piyush Gupta
Genre: Fiction, thriller
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

The story revolves around the lives of 3 guys Dhir, Mohit and Sahil. Dhir has run away from his family due to fear and hatred for his father. He meets Mohit in Mumbai who runs a liquor shop. Soon they become best buddies and Dhir starts working with Mohit. The events of 26/11 blasts introduce them to Sahil, who is still recovering emotionally from his wife’s death.

These three people met in uncertain situations but soon became partners in a mission to become rich. They make a foolproof plan to become rich overnight but unknown to the fact that this night will change their lives forever.

What is their plan?
Will they become rich or get caught?
What is their story?

The story is very interesting to read and the unexpected turn of events makes it more enjoyable to read. The characters are depicted very well but at times you can’t help but feel mad at them. The suspense is kept till the end which will make the readers hooked to the story. Apart from a few grammatical and spelling errors, I enjoyed the story a lot.

Book Review #192 : Zero Bridge & The Hanging River by Dinkar Chopra

Author: Dinkar Chopra
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is the story of an anonymous protagonist and his voyage towards finding answers to his many unanswered questions. This story is a struggle of a young teenage boy who is smitten by his classmate but is unable to confess his love.

This story focuses on how love blooms amidst the violence and terror in the Kashmir Valley. The story shows how important it is to back to our roots. The conversation between the river Jhelum and the protagonist is very interesting to read.

The psychological impact of the terror on a teenager is narrated beautifully. One might get a nostalgic feel and could connect with the protagonist in instances like the feelings you get when moving out to a different city due to various circumstances and rush of emotions when you go back to your roots.

The language and vocabulary are really good and the narration is very captivating. The cover pic and the title are very apt for the story for which it conveys exactly what the story is all about. I liked this story and the concept very much. Indeed a pretty good start to a new year.

Book Review #186: Sand and Sea by Ann D’Silva

Author: Ann D’Silva
Genre: Romance Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

The first few pages which talk about the beautiful relationship between sand and sea piqued my interest to indulge more into the book. At first I thought it’s going to be a poetry or prose about sand and sea but I was surprised when the actual story started unfolding.

This is a story of a God-loving girl named Hannah who never shared a happy family and how she overcomes all her obstacles in her life. The story follows her quest of finding her soulmate who mysteriously appears in her dreams. She needs to unravel the mystery of this man of her dreams to find the answers to all her unsolicited questions.

The story at first is a bit difficult to get along but as it progresses everything seems to come together. This is a very unique kind of story and not like the regular romance stories that we read these days. The cover pic is so beautiful and the title is very apt for the story.

The writing style of the author is brilliant and I loved the way poems and prose are mixed beautifully. The story will definitely keep the readers hooked till the end. And I loved how the author has very cleverly hinted about the next book which is going to be about Maryam. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read Maryam’s story.

Book Review #182: Much Left to Right by Anadi

Author: Anadi
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This story is a mirror image of the reality of the current situation in India that we are facing. It’s very brave of the author to have taken up the real and grave scenarios in her book.

It talks about how the people especially farmers are being misled by certain vested interests for their political benefits and the effects that have on the lives of the poor.

The author through fictional characters tried to show us the cause and effect of certain decisions taken by the governments and I liked the fact that the author gives the opinions from both sides. We also see how even today at some places women are treated like a burden and slaves of men and how patriarchy is still persistent which is snatching the rights of women.

The book also talks about other serious issues and the rightist and leftist ideologies, opinions and differences and how that is leading our country nowhere. This book does give us a unique and brilliant narrative of these ideologies. I liked this book a lot and I recommend it to everyone who.

Book Review #179: The Dreaming Reality by Karan Kapor and Noor Anand

Author: Karan Kapoor & Noor Anand
Genre: Romance / Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is a story which is quite different from other romantic novels. Ridhima who is in her early twenties is the tuition teacher for Rihansh. Although Rihansh was forcefully admitted to the tuition classes he slowly gets attached to Ridhima and they fall in love with each other.

Ridhima suffers from a strange medical condition which makes her see the future in her dreams and shockingly it turns out to be real. Her last dream shook her to the core as she had dreamt about Rihansh’s death. Is Rihansh really going to die or is it just her hallucination?

The story is very intriguing with lot of twists and turns. I liked the writing style and plot and characterization. And one thing that brought smile to my face is the reference used from TV series Big Bang theory and Friends as I’m a big fan of these two series. The climax is something unexpected and leaves you in shock. I loved this book and I recommend it to everyone.

Book Review #178: Maya by Karan Kapoor

Author: Karan Kapoor
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is a simple and unique story of two people Maya and Rudra who were once in love with each other or may be they thought so and are now in a toxic relationship. Rudra is an aspiring writer whereas Maya is a simple girl. While Maya wants to continue and stick to this relationship, Rudra wants to forget and move ahead.

What turned their relationship toxic? Will they ever reconcile? Or is this the dead end for their relationship? You will get your answers only when you read the book.

This is a very short read which I finished in one sitting and I totally loved how the author had narrated the story. We all think we know what love is right. The author gives us a very realistic explanation of what love is not. The book doesn’t have twists and turns but gives us a straight and to the point realistic story. The language is also simple and lucid.

Book Review #175: Entangled Love by Nihar Sharma

Author: Nihar Sharma
Genre: Romance, fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Aditya and Samira the protagonists of the story share a bitter past. Destiny has entwined their lives once again after 6 years. Aditya is now engaged to Monika while Samira is still searching for answers to her unasked questions from the past.

Rajesh Chopra, Samira’s colleague has a crush on her but is unable to express himself in front of her. Then we see another character Sunil, Rajesh’s friend who unveils many hidden secrets from their past.

There are so many characters in this story and each character is linked to another in some way or the other. This is not a story which you haven’t heard before but I appreciate the effort taken by the author in bringing up this story. The characters Monika, Rajesh and Sunil bring a lot twists to the story.

What happened with Aditya and Samira?
Will Aditya and Samira reconcile?

You need to read the book to find out. I felt its quite difficult to get along with the story at few places. And also the editing could have been taken care a little more. Overall it was a good story.

Book Review #172: Bitten by Love by Vijaya Sandireddy

Author: Vijaya Sandireddy
Genre: Romance, fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is a simple and sweet story which revolves around two people who are completely different from each other. Anu is a lively and innocent girl who comes from a conservative family whereas Abhi is more of a matured person with a lot of responsibilities.

Abhi was bitten by love the moment he saw Anu in the traffic signal, just like you get to see in the Indian movies. He was elated to find Anu not only as a colleague but also as a partner for a pair programming task. They become friends and soon their relationship turned to love. Everything was smooth in their love story until one day when Abhi had to break up with her for reasons known to him alone.

The story is an emotional rollercoaster which takes you on a bumpy ride and makes you feel for the protagonists. It focuses on love, heartbreak, family, office life, friendship and much more. It was a very good read and the author has narrated the story very well.

It was heartbreaking to see the plight of Anu and Abhi during their break up phase and at the same time, it feels good to see how they overcome it. Their friends and fun-filled life makes you want to have such friends in your life as well. But I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Overall it was a pleasant read.

Book Review #165: Love Alive by Rijuta Gupta

Author: Rijuta Gupta
Genre: Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

I was mesmerized when I saw the cover of this book so much that I grabbed this immediately and started reading. The story is weaved in such a way as to keep the readers interested throughout.

The story is about Udita, a mother of twin daughters Meera and Maya who is living a peaceful life with her husband Nipun and her daughters until one day when her past reappeared which is about to change her life and she has to make a crucial decision along with a song her relationships.

As the story starts I had a feeling that this story is about the twin sisters but as the story progresses it focuses on Udita’s past and her decisions which is affecting their present lives. The story has many other characters which are given equal importance in the story.

It becomes difficult at first with so many characters but as we get introduced to the various subplots it gets interesting. My only concern is that the cover pic is so beautiful but it has no relevance to the story whatsoever. Other than that the story will definitely keep the readers hooked till the end. Overall it was a good read.
