Book Review #196: The Story That Never Started by Piyush Gupta

Author: Piyush Gupta
Genre: Fiction, thriller
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

The story revolves around the lives of 3 guys Dhir, Mohit and Sahil. Dhir has run away from his family due to fear and hatred for his father. He meets Mohit in Mumbai who runs a liquor shop. Soon they become best buddies and Dhir starts working with Mohit. The events of 26/11 blasts introduce them to Sahil, who is still recovering emotionally from his wife’s death.

These three people met in uncertain situations but soon became partners in a mission to become rich. They make a foolproof plan to become rich overnight but unknown to the fact that this night will change their lives forever.

What is their plan?
Will they become rich or get caught?
What is their story?

The story is very interesting to read and the unexpected turn of events makes it more enjoyable to read. The characters are depicted very well but at times you can’t help but feel mad at them. The suspense is kept till the end which will make the readers hooked to the story. Apart from a few grammatical and spelling errors, I enjoyed the story a lot.

Author: Namrata Gupta
Genre: Thriller
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

How do you feel when you are betrayed by the person whom you trusted and loved the most? It is the worst experience you can ever have in your life. We often see people cheating on others for their own benefits without thinking about the other person’s emotions.

This is one such story of love, betrayal, revenge, emotions and thrill. The story is about Sanaya, a simple girl who falls in love with her colleague Siddharth. They loved each other with all their hearts. Everything is going well in their love life until one day when Sid wants to form a business partnership with Mr.Kashyap.

Sanaya tried her best to save her relationship but is only met with betrayal. Unable to take this betrayal she decides to take revenge on the people who caused trouble in her relationship. Will Sanaya be able to save her relationship with Sid? Will she be able to forgive Sid?

The story is very interesting to read and keeps you guessing the next plan of action of Sanaya. The narration is brilliant and the language is kept simple and lucid. The story feels so real that the readers can relate themselves to the story very much. The character changes of Sanya is very interesting and dynamic that is sure to grip the readers to the book. I enjoyed reading this book a lot.

Book Review #179: The Dreaming Reality by Karan Kapor and Noor Anand

Author: Karan Kapoor & Noor Anand
Genre: Romance / Fiction
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is a story which is quite different from other romantic novels. Ridhima who is in her early twenties is the tuition teacher for Rihansh. Although Rihansh was forcefully admitted to the tuition classes he slowly gets attached to Ridhima and they fall in love with each other.

Ridhima suffers from a strange medical condition which makes her see the future in her dreams and shockingly it turns out to be real. Her last dream shook her to the core as she had dreamt about Rihansh’s death. Is Rihansh really going to die or is it just her hallucination?

The story is very intriguing with lot of twists and turns. I liked the writing style and plot and characterization. And one thing that brought smile to my face is the reference used from TV series Big Bang theory and Friends as I’m a big fan of these two series. The climax is something unexpected and leaves you in shock. I loved this book and I recommend it to everyone.

Book Review #174: Standing Cemetery by Jack Sloat

Author: Jack Sloat
Genre: Fantasy Thriller
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This is a story of a warrior who is an half orc. The warrior due to his last battle with the white dragon had to lose his loved ones and now is left with his children alone. Being old and fragile he visits Standing cemetery and meets Lady Matilda who although looks like a human, is surrounded by magical creatures.

The story thus takes off from this point. The story is a very short read of just 17 pages which moved in fast pace and the climax is a bit shocking to the readers but I felt there is something more to the story and there might be a second part to it. I thought the story could have been made better to make it more interesting and felt if it could have been made into a novel.

The characters and the description was good. The language is simple and lucid. If you like to read short stories then you can pick this up.

Book Review #170: In The Shadow of Inheritence by Manjiri Prabhu

Author: Manjiri Prabhu
Genre: Thriller, mystery
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

When I first saw the book cover I thought it to be a romantic love story but I was surprised the moment I read the prologue and realised it is going to be much more intriguing than what I thought it to be. The story is a combination of love, thrill and mystery.

The story revolves around the main characters Tara, Rohini. Tara, an ambitious and cheerful girl is living an idyllic life in Kesarli with her mom Rohini and their governess Meerakka, who loves Rohini and Tara like her own daughters.

Tara wants to explore new things and new places beyond Kesarli. Her desire lands her in Panchagani where she is destined to discover her past and the secrets related to the alluring Rajwada which changes her life forever.

The story thus follows Tara’s journey towards unravelling the mystery related to Rajwada and her past. In this journey, she finds herself between strangers but the only thing that kept her determination strong was her newly found friend and love interest Sarang.

The story although has so many characters, not even for a minute I felt confused and all the characters are given equal importance by the author. The mystery and suspense are maintained brilliantly throughout the story that the readers will stay hooked until the end and just when you think you guessed the culprit, it turns to be someone else. The shocking climax is just cherry on the cake for the readers.

The places and the characters are described so magnificently by the author that you feel like you are actually living in those places. I liked the character of Tara and bonding between Sanika and Tara is so lovely. I couldn’t keep this book away for a minute until I completed reading it. Having read the author’s other books, I loved this just as much as I loved her other novels. I’m so glad I came across this book.

Book Review #169: The Case of Known Unknown by Harsh Adani

Author: Harsh Adani
Genre: Crime Thriller
Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

David has arranged a feast and has invited his neighbours for the celebration but is unknown about the impending misfortune that will make him regret his decision. Everybody who attended the party is brutally murdered including David’s wife and daughter sparing David alone.

The task of finding out the mystery behind these murders fell upon SHO Syna and her team. Although David being a prime suspect the situation is not that easy to conclude. The pattern of these murders is similar to the murders done years ago by a person named ‘The Stalker’. But less to no occurrences of the murders from the past few years made her sceptical about believing these murders are done by the Stalker.

SHO Syna starts getting letters which are allegedly written by ‘The Stalker’ himself which increases her confusion and determination to solve the case. So Syna along with her junior and Akash, David’s cousin set out on a journey to unravel the mystery and truth behind those letters and find out the real culprit.

So is he back?
Or is someone deliberately committing these crimes?
Will Syna be able to solve the mystery?

It’s very difficult to believe this is a debut novel by the author. The story is exceptionally intriguing and fast-paced that keeps you engaging till the end. The concept of history involved in crimes makes it more interesting. The characters are depicted brilliantly and the narration is really good.

The story keeps you guessing the culprit and makes you think along with the protagonists and you feel like you are the one solving the mystery. With cliff hangers at the end we are kept in anticipation for the next part. I loved this book and I recommend it to everyone.

‘Voice of the runes’ is my second book from this author. I have read her book ‘Final act of love’ which was very good but this book made me want to read more of her books. What a thrilling read this has been. This book is sure to keep you immersed right from the start.
